My cats both hate being brushed. They are both short-haired. One is black with a very thick and soft coat, sometimes slightly oily. He likes to be brushed with this brush fortunately, and he really lies down on his side for it. The other one is a tuxedo cat with a somewhat thinner coat and a sensitive and dry skin, he tolerates it, so it won't irritate him as much as other brushes we have tried so far. Very nice! Keep in mind that the hairs don't go into the brush like you might be used to, but rather they are combed out of the coat to the back, so you will have a lot of "hair clouds" behind your cat after brushing for a while. This also makes it a lot easier to keep the brush clean, and those hairs can be vacuumed with the vacuum cleaner/crumb cleaner.
