Kittens are known for their playful behavior, running, climbing, and jumping. Playing is actually an essential part of normal development and helps young cats develop the social and motor skills that adult cats would normally need in the wild. This play behavior is fully developed around 10-12 weeks of age.
02. Playing to avoid boredom.
A cat has so much to explore, and yet boredom can set in if there's nothing exciting left to discover. That's why it's important to play regularly. Playing helps burn off excess energy, allowing your house tiger to continue practicing its skills.
03. Playing to imitate nature.
Provide a variety of toys for your cat, just as in nature there's a wide variety of spiders, birds, and field mice that a wildcat hunts. Wild cats hunt up to 20 times a day. So, it's wise to stimulate your kitten at least three times a day with interactive games and mini-play sessions.
04. Play to strengthen the bond with your cat.
Spend some time with your cat every day! This allows both you and your cat to bond, relax, and have lots of fun together! However, cats need plenty of attention every day. Cat toys are essential for your kitten. They help keep them happy, fit, and healthy.
05. Playing to reduce stress.
Understanding your kitten's needs and encouraging play will help them get their development on track, build confidence, and reduce stress and/or aggression. Anxiety, especially when moving to a new home, tends to diminish, allowing kittens to relax and adjust to their new home environment.
