If you've witnessed the effect catnip can have on your cat, wait until you see them enjoy NipNaps Valerian root! Valerian is known for its calming and soothing properties in humans. But did you know it also has an irresistible euphoric effect on cats? The root contains valerinone, which triggers a similar reaction in cats as the nepetalactone in catnip. Valerian releases a very distinctive scent, which people often compare to smelly socks. But cats love it, as they are strongly attracted to this scent. NipNaps Valerian is composed of dried valerian root from Poland.
If only the best is good enough for your cats, NipNaps offers the highest quality catnip available today. NipNaps are always packaged in small doses in airtight jars, so the scent lasts long and the catnip doesn't taint the smell of plastic packaging, as is often the case. NipNaps strives to keep the herbs 99.9% pure so your cat can enjoy them safely and, above all, healthily. NipNaps catnip contains no chemicals or sprays, and only dried chicken manure is used seasonally to increase soil bioactivity.
What is Valerian?
While the human response is one of sedation and relaxation, cats are driven into a euphoric frenzy by the scent of valerian, affecting domestic cats in a similar way to catnip. To humans, valerian has an unusual odor resembling sweaty socks. Cats have been naturally attracted to valerian for centuries. In clinical studies, cats given 10 mg/kg of valerian extract showed a significant decrease in restlessness, anxiety, and aggressive behavior. Valerian as a scent stimulation is recommended by the Feline Advisory Bureau.
Why give valerian to my cat?
The root contains valerinone, which produces a similar response in cats as the nepetalactone in catnip. It will give the cat a small energy boost followed by a "zen" period where they can completely unwind.
Is it OK for my cat to eat valerian?
Valerian is a safe herb for your cat, but we don't recommend letting them eat the root. For maximum enjoyment, it's best incorporated into toys.
How long can I store valerian?
Thanks to the airtight glass jars, NipNaps herbs retain their fragrance for much longer. If stored in a cool place (yes, even in the refrigerator), NipNaps valerian can last for over 18 months.
