If you've witnessed the effect catnip can have on your cat, wait until you see them interacting with the NipNaps valerian root! Valerian is known for its calming and soothing properties on humans. But did you know that it also has an irresistible euphoric effect in cats? The root contains valerinone, which produces a similar response in cats as nepetalactone in catnip. Valerian releases a very special scent, which people often compare to scented socks. But cats love it because they are strongly attracted to this scent. The NipNaps 'Valerian' is composed of dried valerian root from Poland.

If only the best is good enough for your cats, then with NipNaps we offer the highest quality catnip available today. NipNaps are always packaged in small doses in airtight jars, so that the scent is retained for a long time and the catnip does not eventually mix with the smell of plastic packaging as is offered in most cases. NipNaps tries the herbs 99.9 % pure so that your cat can enjoy it in a safe and, above all, healthy way. NipNaps catnip contains no chemicals or sprays and only dried chicken manure is used in season to increase biological activity in the soil.

What is Valerian
While the human response is one of sedation and relaxation, cats are driven into a euphoric frenzy by the scent of valerian and affects the domestic cat in a manner similar to that of catnip. To humans, valerian has an unusual odor similar to sweaty socks. Cats have been naturally attracted to Valerian for centuries. In clinical studies it was proven that cats who digested 10 mg/kg of a valerian extract experienced a significant decrease in restlessness, anxiety and aggressive behavior. Valerian as an odor stimulant is recommended by the Feline Advisory Bureau.

Why give valerian to my cat?
The root contains valerinone, which produces a similar response in cats as nepetalactone in catnip. It will give the cat a small energy boost followed by a 'zen' period where he or she can completely relax.

Is it OK for my cat to eat valerian?
Valerian is a safe herb for your cat, but we don't recommend letting him eat the root. For maximum pleasure, it is best to use toys.

How long can I store valerian?
Thanks to the airtight glass jars, the NipNaps herbs retain their scent for much longer. If the jars are stored in a cool place (yes, even in the refrigerator), NipNaps valerian can even last longer than 18 months.
